Our Office Has Moved...

Hello! Sorry for the lack of communication but Doublescoop Industries had the opportunity to rent a space overlooking downtown Portland. We've relocated our offices so that we can take coffee breaks on the balcony and stare at the wonders of the city... plus we can eat sandwiches from Bunk just about everyday!

Office hours are 9 - 3 still with a break in the mid day for a leisure run through the warehouse district for health.

Doublescoop takes on Art Nouveau

I really like how this design turned out. Last year, Ann Fox made a passing comment to me that Guemes Island looked like a mermaid sitting on a rock. I'm not sure that this what she was thinking, exactly, but it's my ode to that thought. I call it "Lady on the Rock." Look for it as a limited edition poster at Anderson's General Store and on our etsy site in the next few weeks. I'd like to make an version of it into a tee-shirt as well.

New ad for Anderson's

I had fun on this one! And check out the new posters we have at the store. I'll snap a picture today and put up a post tomorrow, swear!

Also, coming up will be canvas bags and more posters. So much to do!

Institute For Leadership Renewal

Here's the finished logo for the Institute For Leadership Renewal. The goal at the outset was to create a logo using a warm green that represented growth, targeting goals and focusing. We're quite happy with the results!

Hoopseed

So, we're in the early stages of a logo for a non-profit organization called Hoopseed. We're shooting for a 70's ABA vibe. We're not they're yet but we wanted to pull back the curtain and let you in on the early stages of development.

S/NASH Jewelry Hang Tags

The S/NASH hangtags just came back from the printer and they're pretty sexy. The paper is copper with a diamond luster on it that is guaranteed to loosen the purse strings of hipsters around the world. If you have checked out her jewelry yet, you should. It's amazing! Now there's word of a custom project between our two massive think tanks, it might be called Doublenash or it might be S/COOP. We'll have to wait and see.Link

Thank you postcards...

Just got the thank you postcards back from the printer so if you're reading this and we owe you a thanks, act surprised when you open the mailbox!

I was shooting for a spiritual hippy vibe crossed with a hip-hop bling style. I think it works...

Office Hours M-F 9 until 3

Just a quick note to let you know that we're in the office M-F 9 am till 3pm. Generally we're jamming some weird music, brainstorming designs or doodling on a new comic strip about a rogue band of folk musicians from the hills of Guemes Island.

Here's a picture of me, watching you open the door.

Economic Stimulus Package

So, wait, things aren't that bad out there, we promise! Just to prove it, we wanted to let you know that if you're feeling the crunch but still need some design work done, talk to us.

You know what we love? Trades... even if you're low on funds, we know you've got something we need. It could be tax help (wink, wink), it could be a hand knit armsling, it could even be some new Chuck Taylors that fell off the truck (size 7 or 10 please).

The point is this, don't be afraid to talk to us about your needs just because you're feeling the cash crunch.

New Knw-Yr-Own Ad for Yeti...

It's dark and bleak for the record industry these days... KYO records asked us to represent that in their new ad. So, we were riding on the ferry and caught the water looking particularly dark and silver and the ad was nearly finished, all it needed was a little sparse text.

Directory Signs

The Keystone Center of the Arts (the art studio/office building which doublescoop resides in) hired us recently to revamp their building signs. We replaced both the more permanent ones (floor markers, exit signs, etc.) and their more transient (tenents) throughout the building in complimentary style and tone. The more perminent signs we screenprinted onto prefinished maple, but we were faced with a conundrum regarding the practicality and the costs associated with printing temporary signs in a building with a high turnaround rate. We advised to keep it cheap and simple by printing on a recycled cardstock at the local high end printer. That way with a template in place, new tenent signs are quick, cheap and easy, while still having the touch of class a textured recycled stock and a nice digital print gives.

We hung the final product last weekend, though still have to make the placard for the second floor directory, which we expect to complete in the next couple weeks.

Promotional Rack Card

2-panel promotional brochure to be printed on glossy card stock

This is a recent project I've been working on for Anderson's General Store on Guemes Island , WA.

If you've been on a ferry or into your local chamber of commerce recently you've probably noticed cards like these. Glossy and eye catching, they lure tourists to their attractions.

For this endeavor we not only designed the card itself, but took original food photography and illustrated a new logo for it (look out for new etched glasses, coming soon!).

Here are some photos that didn't make the cut, but I still have a soft spot for.

Postcard Design

promotional postcard printed on 100LB off-white linen stock

This is a postcard we recently designed for a play being shown at Seattle's SPF3 theater festival. The play is entitled "Take This One With You."
Speaking to postcards of the past, we hand painted each black and white photograph used on the front of this card as well as hand lettering the Post Card logo found on the back and designing the overall concept and layout.

Hot New Radio Ad!

You've probably already heard it blasting on your favorite radio station but for those of you who live in the middle of nowhere, we're posting it here.

We went down to the assembly line at the factory and did a little market testing along the lines of our friends at Blu Blockers. Turns out robots love this stuff.

The Back Catalog: Media Design for Professionals

In an attempt to catch everyone up, we've decided to publish some highlights from our work over the past couple years here at doublescoop design.

Enjoy and be sure to send us an
email if you'd like to see any of these samples in their larger versions.

Part Six: Media Design for Professionals

Probably doublescoop's most popular arena, the vast majority of our clients lie somewhere in this category. Unfortunately, it is the hardest to explain and the trickiest to show. Everyone from local photographers, to college universities, to international businesses have hired us to design various and needed graphic materials.

For example, Clearsnap, Inc.
, a large rubber stamp and craft company, hires us quite often to accomplish various design related tasks. We do everything from making templates (and making use of existing templates) to send to mold designers, printers and stamp plate makers, to designing and updating their packaging and labels, to keeping their annual wholesale catalog up to date, to acting as graphic liaison between their freelance artists and their manufacturers. Sounds lively, eh? But you and I both know it's these things that must get done and doublescoop's not above any task, great or small.

Photography studios hire us regularly, as well, to design print materials for them. We've made DVD covers, Thank You cards, custom coffee table books, price sheets, photo collages, and more. McGill University even hired us to design the DVD covers for their documentary, The Nutrition Project, after seeing work we had done for local photo house, kpstudios.

Below are some highlights.
